A Surprise Visit
William K. Fox, alumnus from the
entering class of 1943, made a special
visit to Disciples House this spring.
There was something that he wanted to
see – or rather someone.
DDH’s quarterly schedule of events
had arrived in his mail. He recognized
the name of Ayanna Johnson, “a graduating
ministry student who was of special
interest to me.” She was scheduled
to present her senior ministry project on
Monday, May 3, following the Monday
community dinner. Mr. Fox knew at that
moment what he was going to do.
He reserved a guest room at DDH
and purchased an airline ticket from
Kansas City to Chicago. But he didn’t
tell Ayanna Johnson, who grew up in
Kansas City and in the Swope Parkway
